FROM PUTTAPARTHI...SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT - 20: DEATH OF THE BODY !!!

SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT – 20

DEATH OF THE BODY!!!

A man worships his mother who gave him birth. He massages her feet, prostrates before her, gazes into her eyes with love, listens to her voice, is warmed and made happy by her affectionate and loving regard.

At age 75, the mother dies.

The son cries out, 'Mother, Mother, why have you left me & gone?'

Why did the man cry out? The body he worshipped was still there, the feet he massaged daily were there, but he cried out that his mother was not there, that she had left him!!!

It's quite obvious that even though the man had for the past several years regarded the body and mother as one and the same, yet when the mother died he instantly knew that 'mother' was not body and that 'mother' had departed even though body remained!!! Isn't this amazing? Even while knowing this TRUTH all the time, we very often refuse to accept it when we're faced with that tragedy!

So, of what value was the body, which was never the mother, even though for a time it had been regarded as mother?

Contemplating this mystery, it is apparent that had it not been for the body, the mother could not have been known at all. It was only through the medium of body that the man was able to experience and thus know the tender, loving, sublime quality of the mother which resulted in love rising up in his heart.

The formless, timeless quality of 'mother' could be known and attained only through the 'impermanent physical form.'

"Since God has no form, our minds need to visualize a form in order to focus our devotion and worship towards this one object or form and out of His infinite mercy and Grace, God manifested in various forms..."

GOD, who's timeless & formless, has to take birth as a human being only for us to understand this concept of AVATAR!!! Whether RAMA or KRISHNA or BABA, God has to come in 'some human form' for man to see & feel HIS presence!!!

It's said, "IT'S SO AMAZING TO HAVE AN AVATAR IN OUR MIDST BUT IT'S ALSO EQUALLY OR MORE AMAZING NOT TO RECOGNIZE ONE!!!"

It is also said that there are 2 things we always ought to remember: Death and God!

This means if we contemplate on God always knowing that Death would strike us some day, then much good action will result, and harmful action will be avoided.

On the battlefield, Krishna told Arjuna, "Arjuna, you are not the body but the eternal Atma. (God) Let your Atmic nature guide your actions rather than mere worldly considerations."

However, what happens almost always is that we forget to take orders from the Atma & very often we don't listen to our inner voice that can be heard in silence. In the Gita, Krishna very clearly reminds man, "You have a cosmic connection with every entity in Creation."
