FROM PUTTAPARTHI...SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT - 14: THE CHILD !!!

SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT – 14

THE CHILD!!!

There was this ritual going on, and people were coming and taking their place in the hall. A father arrived with his 3-year-old child and sat near me. She was a chubby little girl, with a heartwarming dimpled smile. They sat down, and the father wanted the baby to sit by him on the mat. But the child refused to sit on the ground.

She sat on her father's lap, one hand around his neck. Then she looked up at the numerous beautiful pictures on the ceiling of the hall as well as the sides and started to ask her father about each one of them!

The hall was breathtakingly decorated with attractive colored ribbons & balloons as well. The child very happily was watching all this & asking her dad questions.

Yet, all the while, she resolutely remained on her father's lap, clinging on to his neck tenaciously. I was so amused; I could not take my eyes off this child. After a few minutes, she got probably tired of looking at the pictures and the colors for now she held her father's neck in both hands, and hid her face on his shoulder & blissfully slept!!!

This is an analogy. The 'father' referred here is GOD! The breath taking pictures on the walls & the ceiling plus the colored ribbons & balloons refer to the various attractions & sensory pleasures of this illusory World! The 'child' represents all of us!

If we could hold on to our Father like this child, and refuse to budge from His lap to seek the attractions of the world, comfort and independence, then we would be quite safe.

We may get interested in many pictures of the world, but we must have one hand firmly around our father's neck, and just listen to how He explains them to us, forever ready to hold Him with both our hands, and finally take our eyes away from the world, to hide ourselves in Him.

Our whole existence, then, is centered in our Father, who is far more real than all the colors and shapes of the world!!!

Thus, When the mind of man is unattached to the ups and downs of life, but is able to maintain equanimity under all circumstances, constantly taking this "Vitamin G", contemplating on its' Glory then & only then this vitamin 'G's grace is obtained! ('G' for GOD!)

'Permanent' happiness can be secured only through one form of Vidya - the Upanishadic Vidya. That is the science of God-realization, the teachings of Rishis. That alone can save man and grant him peace. There is nothing higher that. Whatever are the books or journals or newspapers you read, we need to have our eyes always focused on this Vidya. There should be no 'diversion' from this!

LET US BE LIKE THIS CHILD!!!

This should somewhat answer the following query:

Wonderful sir. (THE PAINTING COMPETITION)

But I have a query.

1.      External – Living in inner peace when you are surrounded by turmoil and violence. How can one insulate oneself from this?

2.      Internal – Living in a materialistic environment – career / personal etc. has its own incumbent problems. How can one be not affected by this and yet living with inner peace?

But I employ a simple method. I read. Lots of books. Journals and Newspapers. At least all these give you the necessary diversion one requires, at least temporarily.
