FROM PUTTAPARTHI...WONDERFUL SAYINGS OF SWAMI !!!

Every Avatar is an amazing phenomenon. Not to recognize the Avatar is equally a matter for amazement. Even more astonishing is the incapacity to experience the presence of the Avatar. Most astonishing of all is to be in the presence of the Lord and feel miserable. To be in the proximity of the Avatar, to move about with the Avatar, to sing and sport with the Avatar and yet fail to understand the truth of the Avatar is indeed a remarkable phenomenon! When the Avatar principle is understood, you experience real bliss.

- From Bhagawan's 1990 Krishna Janmasthami Divine Discourse.

To talk of the Vibhuti that I give or to talk of the things that I materialize and the miracles I perform is not correct. Sometimes, I feel like laughing at the ignorance of people when they attach such importance to My miracles. People talk only of such things and forget the much bigger aspect in Me. The most sacred quality in Me is Prema. This Prema is immeasurable!

I am Love, Love and Love. I am always Love! Love is everything but people do not understand Love.

Swami says wonderfully :

There is no desire in Sai. Where is the space for desire in Sai? Everything is already Mine! Sai does not think. My will is instantly realized. Whatever it may be, it immediately appears.I readily give you what you want, so that you may want what I have come to give.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...REVATI & BALARAMA !!!

In 1989, Bhagavan brought forth another unique object from the times of Dwapara YUGA in "Sai  Sruti" ..It was the 'raksha', talisman given by Brahma to King Revati, the father of Revati!!!

It was a crystal-swan mounted on a gold-lotus-base and set in an arch-shaped gold frame studded with diamonds. Baba materialized it while narrating a story from Bhagavata.

When King Ravita had lost his kingdom to his enemies  he performed penance to win the grace of Lord Brahma.

Brahma who was pleased with his penance, gifted him the talisman and told him,  "Give this raksha to your daughter. She will grow up to become an adept in mace-fight. The man who can excel her in wielding the mace-fight would become her husband and he will help you in winning back your kingdom.

"Later Revati learned the art of mace -fight from the preceptor,  Sandeepani, in his ashram.  There she met her match in Balarama, who along with his brother, Krishna was also a student of Sandeepani.

Balarama defeated Revati in a mace-fight and married her.  Later he helped his father-in-law to regain his kingdom from his enemies.

PS: One can claim to be a devotee of the Lord only if the passions and emotions are pure and the character virtuous. The tongue may utter the Name of the Lord, the ear may hear the glory of the Lord, the hand may scatter flowers on the image of God; but the tongue may not know or relish the taste, the ear may not yearn, the hand may not hanker for God. These can happen only when the heart is aware of the Supreme, and the mind is thrilled recollecting the glory of God. Otherwise one is like the spoon which dips into sour and sweet with equal alacrity and insensitivity. It does not refuse or relish any of the tastes. SATHYA SAI

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...DR HISLOP...SEEKING DIVINITY !!!

Dr Hislop ... Seeking Divinity

San Diego, California, Feb 4Th, 1986

My wife and I have a home in Ensenada district in MEXICO. WE HAVE LIVED there quite a few years now.  A chap I know there recently put up a television dish in his yard and said he had entertainment twenty-four hours a day. So he sits in front of his TV and he is very happy.

He limits himself to three cans of beer a day and to one litter of vodka a week.  From early morning unit late, he sits watching that TV. He gets stations from all over the world with his long-range antenna.

You know, from one point, we might say he is not really a sensible man. It is not very constructive way to use one's life. But you know everything really goes circle. Things go up to their limit and then they come back---and life does that, too.

It goes out into manifestation and experiences everything that manifestation can bring, and then slowly and gradually it comes back from whence it came back. Back home again back to the center.

Swami says, in fact that this cycle of progressive evolution, where eternal, individual consciousness takes itself as an object is the moment when duality begins. With duality there is creation--endless creation.

THE BEGINNING OF DUALITY

----------------------------------------------------------------------

SWAMI SAYS that creation is endless, and that the first expansion itself of indivisible consciousness into duality that is taking itself as an object, manifest as granite, as a rock.  Then He says that rock dies and reborn as a tree.  After all that experience, three dies and reborn as as animal; After that long, long experience, animal promotes itself to the status of human being.

Beyond that, there are a total of seven steps on the journey out into manifestation, out into multiplicity; and then back into heart into unity. There is rock, vegetable, animal, human, superhuman, cosmic and the divine.

Our friend in Mexico is still engaged in that outward flow of life into manifestation. So, what is the harm? You know can last for millions and millions of years and millions and millions of incarnations.  All perfectly legitimate.  There really is no reason for anyone to take up spiritual life and try to find the central truth about things, until he feels in himself that in pulse to do it.

Proselytizing people and urging them to take up a spiritual life, is only effective if they are ripe for it. Then you perhaps the greatest good deed that is possible to do for any body. But in general, the world is not ready for that, will never be ready for it. Because there is a constant coming into manifestation of life as it advances through this progressive evolution.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...DIVINE WORDS !!!

Worship the Lord who lives in the cavity of your heart, nearer to you than your thickest friend, your father, mother or preceptor. He is all of these and more to you. The physical body and the pleasures and comforts you crave for are all subject to damage and decay. One day or other, it becomes food for dogs and jackals. The Lord, on the other hand, grants you bliss and joy forever. He cannot be won my unlimited scholarship, pompous vows or colorful rituals. Surrender your heart to Him. He desires nothing else from you.

God is a spotlessly clean mirror; you see in It your own reflection. When you have terror-striking propensities, the reflection you see will strike terror into you. When you have soft harmless propensities, the reflection will be tender and soft. Do not lay the blame on Godhead, as you are prone to do. When everything goes right, you say that God has come close to you; when something goes wrong, you say that God has deserted you and gone afar! He does not move far or near. The distance from Him to you is as much as the distance from you to Him. He is everywhere. He always is, in your heart. Recognise Him there; realise Him as closest and nearest to you. He is your own self.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...THE ZEN MONKS !!!

The Pretty Lady

Once upon a time a big monk and a little monk were traveling together. They came to the bank of a river and found the bridge was damaged. They had to wade across the river. There was a pretty lady who was stuck at the damaged bridge and couldn't cross the river.

The big monk offered to carry her across the river on his back. The lady accepted. The little monk was shocked by the move of the big monk. 'How can big brother carry a lady when we are supposed to avoid all intimacy with females?' thought the little monk. But he kept quiet... The big monk carried the lady across the river and the small monk followed unhappily.

When they crossed the river, the big monk let the lady down and they parted ways with her. All along the way for several miles, the little monk was very unhappy with the act of the big monk. He was making up all kinds of accusations about big monk in his head. This got him madder and madder. But he still kept quiet.

And the big monk had no inclination to explain his situation. Finally, at a rest point many hours later, the little monk could not stand it any further; he burst out angrily at the big monk. 'How can you claim yourself a devout monk, when you seize the first opportunity to touch a female, especially when she is very pretty? All your teachings to me make you a big hypocrite.

The big monk looked surprised and said, 'I had put down the pretty lady at the river bank many hours ago, how come you are still carrying her along?'

[This very old Chinese Zen story reflects the thinking of many people today. We encounter many unpleasant things in our life, they irritate us and they make us angry. Sometimes, they cause us a lot of hurt; sometimes they cause us to be bitter or jealous... But like the little monk, we are not willing to let them go away. We keep on carrying the baggage of the 'pretty lady' with us.

We let them keep on coming back to hurt us, make us angry, make us bitter and cause us a lot of agony.
Why? Simply because we are not willing to put down or let go of the baggage of the 'pretty lady'.

PS: You must live in the world with "Udaseenabhava", the stage of disinterestedness, which describes the condition of one who has grasped the truth. In this stage, you will taste the sweetness of the Divine and will never entertain distractions or doubts, and live without any afflictions. The great sages, Suka, Sanaka and Sananda lived in this Bliss and with the conviction of Oneness with the Divine. They used the intellect as the prime instrument, which shined in its pristine effulgence, cleansed from the rust of the sensory attractions. You can attain this through your own disciplined lives and ceaseless effort. - SWAMI

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...DIVINE CHAT !!!

DIVINE CHAT

God: Hello. Did you call me?

Me: Called you? No.....who is this?

God: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat..

Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something.

God: What are you busy at?

Me: Don't know. But I cannot find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.

God: Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this next era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?

God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Me: Why are we then constantly unhappy?

God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?

God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty. ....

God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?

God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire.. Good people go through trials, but do not suffer.  With that experience their life becomes better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God: Yes. In all terms, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can't we be free from problems?

God: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are heading

God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading.. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?

God: Success is a measure as decided by others.. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

God: When they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me". Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here? I can't get the answer.

God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?

God: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I now have a new sense of inspiration.

God: Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...5 POINTS...!!!

Swami says  about the Five points of Discipline :

1.Silence : This is the first step in sadhana; it makes the other steps easy. It promotes self-control; it lessens chances of anger, hate, malice, greed and pride. Besides, you can hear His Footsteps, only when Silence reigns in the mind.

2.Cleanliness : It is the doorway to Godliness. Inner and outer cleanliness are essential, if you desire to install God in your heart.

3.Service : Service saves you from the agony you get when another suffers; it broadens your vision, widens your awareness, deepens your compassion. All waves are on the same sea from the same sea. Seva teaches you to be firm in this knowledege.

You are not doing Seva and Service for others. You are doing it always for yourselves, to the God in you, the God who is equally present in others.  Doing Seva to others in Need is the greatest Gift you can give to another person and brings you closer to the Divine. Help others and you will move a step closer to the Divine and towards Swami.

4.Love : Do not calculate or weigh the reaction, result or reward. Love calls; love responds. Love is God, Live in Love.

5.Hate-less-ness : Adweshtaa sarva bhoothaanaam (without hatred to any being). Nothing is to be looked down upon. as secondary, inferior, unimportant, or expendable. Each has its allotted role in the drama, designed by the Almighty. Do not slight, insult or injure any being, for He is in every being and your slight becomes a sacrilege.

Om Sai Ram

We are prepared to receive love from all people, but are hesitant to share our love with others. It should be a give and take policy. Love begets Love. You must also be prepared to receive love from others. Love is a gift of God. In fact, you must rise to such a level that whatever is given by God, you must be prepared to receive wholeheartedly. At times, God also gives you a bitter pill like the doctor. This is for your own good. Both happiness and sorrow are God's gifts. Nobody can comprehend His Divine Leelas.

- From Bhagawan's Discourse in May'2003 in Prasanthi Nilayam.
