FROM PUTTAPARTHI...RESPONSE FROM DR. VASANTHA NAIR !!!

Sairam .

I have a small story from my personal life regarding a pair of shoes.
Just sharing it with you.
Sairam
Dr.Vasantha Nair

Part 1
The Girl With My New Shoes!

Sometime back, I was called upon to narrate an anecdote of my childhood; any one-which had helped me 'grow' as a person ; as I recalled the event that I am now going to relate, I was amazed that early enough, a tiny incident had instilled into me, something of immense depth and richness; a value with a lasting flavor, with its' power to enrich me in its' many facets-all through life!

Year1957; I was all of ten years; one morning, on reaching school, I went up to Sister Josephine with a pair of new shoes tucked under my arm; they had to be given away, to any child needy of them as they were ill fitting on my feet. Sr J. had a glowing countenance oozing warmth and kindness and was just right to take charge of them.

She did so literally with her whole being! Her eyes gleamed and with unconcealed delight and appreciation, she relieved me of my parcel with a " how kind!, hhooww kkiiinnd!!" Satisfied with her response, I moved away, with a sense of worth and goodness .A while later ,I noticed her pointing me out to a group of older children that had gathered around her. The new shoes seemed to be on display.

With the gong of the bell ,we toed our way to the classroom, where, as hours passed by, my little brain was subjected to the rigmaroles of geography, english, arithmetic and science. Quite suddenly, I was alerted by my name being called out; Sr.J .had summoned me downstairs.

As I hopped down the stairs, the now forgotten shoes came back to mind. Now what? Was something amiss? A hole in the shoes?  No takers? Chocolates, or a- ' thank you –good girl' for me ?'

There she stood in her large frame –almost filling the portico, with a beckoning smile.
"Come my dear," she said, "you must meet the child who has received your shoes."
By her side, stood a girl-seemingly poor, face lit up- as she displayed her shod feet. "Now, thank her, "said Sr.J., and the girl most graciously thanked me. Sister watched on -beside herself with joy, in the act of giving, in the act of receiving, and she- between them! An added sense of goodness surged in me, as I gracefully nodded to the girl before romping back to class.

Fifty years have sped away, but not without revealing beautiful truths that lay throbbing in this tiny episode. Truths- about giving! Greater truths about receiving! 'Hidden truths'-in their silent grandeur and true glory!

My exalted mother, at whose behest I had given away the shoes, and Sr.J., had both infused into me-the joy of giving; the goodness of giving! The worthiness of giving!
It took several instances dotting the years- some happy, others exhilarating, yet others painful, to learn that this joy-the giver gets, only, when- somebody there is –to receive;
                                                 -a hand- willing to receive!
                                                 -a heart-happy to receive!
-a receiver- who deserves to receive!

For some reason,
if the receiver refuses to accept, the giver cannot  give! Cannot receive joy!
So- it is the receiver who transmutes his act-into joy-for the giver
In one way, it is the receiver who gives and the giver who receives!
Truly, both giver and receiver stand together, stand as ONE-before God !
They are in essence –the same!

SAIRAM

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...HELP !!! OLD PAIR OF SHOES !!!

PAIR OF OLD SHOES!!!

HELP!!!

A young man, a student in one of the universities, was one day taking a walk with a professor, who was commonly called the students' friend for his kindness to those who waited on his instructions.

As they went along, they saw lying in the path a pair of old shoes, which were supposed to belong to a poor man who was working in a field close by, and who had nearly finished his day's work . . .

Student turned to the professor, saying: "Let us play
 the man a trick:

We will hide his shoes, and hide ourselves behind those bushes, and wait to see his perplexity when he cannot find them ..."

"My young friend," answered the professor, "We should never amuse ourselves at the expense of the poor . . . But you are rich, and may give yourself a much greater pleasure by means of this poor man.

Put a coin in each shoe, and then we will hide ourselves
and watch how this affects him..."  The student
did so and they both placed themselves behind the bushes
close by. The poor man soon finished his work, and came
across the field to the path where he had left his coat and
 shoes . . .

While putting on his coat he slipped his foot into one of
his shoes, but feeling something hard, he stooped down to
feel what it was, and found the coin. Astonishment and
wonder were seen upon his countenance.

He gazed upon the coin, turned it around and looked at it
 again and again.

He then looked around him on all sides, but no person was
to be seen. He now put the money into his pocket, and
proceeded to put on the other shoe; but his surprise was
doubled on finding the other coin.

His feelings overcame him . . . He fell upon his knees,
looked up to heaven and uttered aloud a fervent thanksgiving
in which he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless, and his
children without bread, whom this timely bounty, from some
unknown hand, would save from perishing . . .

The student stood there deeply affected, and his eyes
 filled with tears.

"Now," said the professor, are you not much
better pleased than if you had played your intended
 trick?"

The youth replied, "You have taught me a lesson which
I will never forget. . . I feel now the truth of these words,
 which I never understood before:
"It's more blessed
 to give than to receive."

If you want happiness.... for a lifetime - help someone.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...THE ACORN PLANTER !!!

"By sparing a little time this weekend, you can make the difference to the World"

The Acorn Planter

A young traveler was once exploring the French Alps. He came upon a vast stretch of barren land. It was desolate, forbidding and ugly. It was the kind of place you would hurry away from.

Then suddenly, the young traveler saw something that amazed him. In the middle of this vast wasteland was a bent over old man. On his back was a sack of acorns and in his hand, a long iron pipe. The man was using the iron pipe to punch holes in the ground. Then from the sack he would take an acorn and place it in the hole.

The old man told the young traveler, "I've planted over 100,000 acorns. Perhaps only a tenth of them will survive and grow."

This was how he chose to spend his years. " I want to do something useful," he said. Twenty-five years later, the now-not-as-young traveler returned to the same desolate area. What he saw made him stop dead in his tracks. He could not believe his own eyes. The land was covered with a beautiful forest almost two miles wide and five miles long. Birds were singing, animals were playing, and wild flowers perfumed the air. The traveler stood there recalling the desolation there once was; a beautiful oak forest stood there now – all because someone cared.

I am only one but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something and just because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something I can.

RESPONSES…

1.    Dear Sir,

Experiencing pain or Pleasure is his own soul.  Neither his physical body nor Super Soul experiences this pain or pleasure.  I think his soul enjoys his ego at the time of risk to his physical body.  What is loss to his Soul?  It will take another physical body resembles with its desired Characters.  Unless the Soul permanently rest and enjoys Super Soul, this birth and rebirth will never end.  Soul should permanently attach with Super Soul to become the God.

Continuous practicing of meditation only yields this result.

Regards

VASU V

2.    Sir,

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...ARE YOU GOD !!!

ARE YOU GOD!!!

We were all expecting Swami to emerge from the doorway at any moment.

Appearing suddenly, Swami walked into the garden among us. (Those were the days!) He stopped not far from where I was standing. A young Indian, probably in his early twenties, stepped boldly in front of Sai Baba, and even more boldly asked the question, "Are you God?"

The hush that fell over the group of men seemed expectant, and yet somehow fearful. But Swami was his calm, normal self. He pointed his finger at the young man and replied, "You are God!!!"

He then gave a simple revealing yet profound talk that God incarnates in every man and woman born on earth but we are not aware of this wonderful truth, although perhaps sometimes dimly aware.

Swami told us that, "Our very purpose in being born as a human being, is to work towards the realization of the great truth of our Divinity. The ones who are called Avatars are those who are born with the knowledge of this great truth of their identity with God."

And so Swami said, "The only difference between you and me is that while you are avatars and you do not know it, I knew it from the time of my childhood. When I tell you that you are God, that God is within you all, you may or may not believe it, but you have to do more than believe it.

You must by the life you live, and through your Sadhana (Spiritual practice) reach the point where you experience your own Godhood."

Someone had narrated the story of a man who, sitting on the roof of his house during a rising flood, refused all help from men in boats and helicopters who tried to rescue him, saying, "Don't bother, I have prayed to God to save me!!!"

When in due course, he was drowned, and his soul stood in the presence of God, he said to the Almighty, "I prayed to you to save me, but you did not."

God replied "I sent rescuing boats and a helicopter to take you off your roof and save your life but you had forgotten that all helping hands are my hands!!! It was 'Me' in those rescue boats!!!"

Man's life is like a garland, with birth at one end and death at the other. Between the two ends are strung together flowers of all kinds - troubles, worries, joys, sorrows and dreams. Few are aware of the string that runs through all the flowers. Without the string there can be no garland. Your sole objective is to recognize this Divine string!!! Whatever God or Form you worship, see 'That God or 'Form' in everyone & everything – Baba

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...THE BURNT TOAST !!!

THE BURNT TOAST!!!

A story by a girl…

"When I was a little girl, my mom liked to make breakfast food for 'dinner' every now and then!!! And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burnt toast in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!

Yet all my dad did was reach for his toast, smile at my mom, and ask me how my day at school was. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that toast and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. And I'll never forget what he said: 'Baby, I love burnt toast.'

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his toast burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, 'Debbie, your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides-a little burnt toast never hurt anyone!'

You know, life is full of imperfect things...and imperfect people. I'm not the best housekeeper or cook.

What I've learnt over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's differences - is the one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of GOD. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where burnt toast isn't a deal-breaker!

"We could extend this to any relationship in fact - as understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!!! "

PS: Do not whine that you are burdened with difficulties. As you undergo more difficulties, your karma will reduce. If someone comes across unbearable problems or difficulties, one has to understand that they are going to see good times shortly.

Therefore, do not get upset or distressed when misfortunes befall. Welcome them instead. It is not always summer or winter. Fortune smiles on you after misfortune and vice versa.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...DIVINE ANSWERS !!!

DIVINE ANSWERS!!!

Q: Sometimes people ask us that if Swami is God, then why does he not remove all the sufferings?

Swami: It is not that Swami has no 'desire' to remove the suffering, but how is it possible for Swami to accept part-time devotion and give full-time payment? Swami has a great 'desire' to give happiness to all mankind, but mankind itself is responsible for the good and the bad it experiences. God's grace can change your destiny, if you so desire.

All the good and all the bad, are merely reflections of the various activities in this world indulged in by mankind. The world is not constituted of earth and mud only. There are people in it as well and the earth and the people are inseparably bound with each other. They cannot be separated.

For every act of man, there is Reaction, Resound and Reflection."

Q: Does Swami suffer sorrow or happiness?

Swami: you see Sorrow and happiness only because of your dual nature. God only sees one, not many. Of course, the seed of activity (Karma) is there and that brings forth your destiny.

You reap whatever you have planted. God sees only one. There is a tree with its roots, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. It is a manifestation of many forms and attributes, which have all come from the one seed. Take the example of soil or earth. There is sweetness in sugarcane and various fruits. The sweetness is really contained in the one earth just as the tree is in the one seed.

Similarly for all the names, forms and attributes, the One Divinity is the basis. Because I know the Truth fully, that all are Divine; that everything is Divine and that there is no Jiva (individuality) other than Divinity, there is no time or occasion when Swami has suffered pain, or pleasure, or sorrow. At no time does Swami suffer any of these things.

When someone comes to me and says that he is suffering great pain or sorrow, I very much want to feel and see what pain is like or what sorrow is like. But it has not been possible for me to experience either pain or sorrow. Since such people have not understood this aspect of Mine, I pretend and look sorrowful or as if I am suffering. I pretend, so that I may correct them, put them on the proper path and make them understand me. I am telling you these things through truthful personal experience and these are not some imaginary statements.

In me there is no such thing as sinking at some worldly sorrows or being elated at some worldly achievements. "My Life Is My Message" has been said in this context and if you try to follow me, you will also have an enormous amount of peace and bliss.

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...DIVINE CONVERSATIONS !!!

DIVINE CONVERSATIONS!!!

This Wonderful Conversation between Swami and a Western devotee is taken from the book "Baba" by Arnold Schulman.

" You don't understand," Baba said.

"I only told you 'write a book' because I wanted you. Understand? You. Not a book. The book is publicity. I don't need publicity. I don't want publicity. I want you. I want your faith. I want your love. Everybody who comes here to see me thinks they have arranged it, but I arranged it. ...."

Then later in the book...

The writer stepped into the room and bowed slightly, both palms together on his chest under his chin.

"So," Baba said. He paused to look directly into the writer's eyes . " So, you have seen enough."

"Too much. I don't understand anything I've seen."

Baba laughed.

The writer felt he should smile or nod or indicate in some way that he understood what Baba had said, but he did not understand and he resisted the temptation to pretend that he did.

Baba nodded. " Life is only the memory of a dream," he said.

"It comes from no visible rain. It falls into no recognizable sea. Some day, not for a while yet, you will understand how meaningless it is to spend your whole life trying to accumulate material things. I have no land, no property of my own where I can grow my own food.

Everything is registered in the name of someone else, but just as those people in the village who have no land wait until the pond dries up so they can scratch the land with a plow and quickly grow something before the pond fills up again, I grow my food which is Love or Joy. To you the words have different meaning, but to me both words are the same. But I have to do it quickly, quickly in the hearts of those who come to see me, quickly before they leave."

He looked up again into the writer's eyes.

"The kind of belief in me I ask for is more, much more than most people think is faith or love," Baba said.

"That's why many people who come just to see the miracles stop loving me the minute I stop entertaining them and giving them presents. No. What I ask you to do is give me everything. Not fruits or flowers or land, but you, all of you with nothing held back. Your mind. Your heart. Your soul..." He stopped and paused, then nodded to himself. "But those are just words."

They were silent for a time.

The writer stood beside the couch and waited. There was nothing he could say. A kind of warmth and closeness he had never known before was spreading through his consciousness and it frightened him. He felt in danger of being smothered by it, but it wasn't just the intensity of the feeling that disturbed him. It was the sudden realization that this feeling of Love -he thought it was love- was different from any other kind of love he have ever felt or heard about or read of before. It may have been his inability to define what he felt that caused him suddenly to panic. In less than a minute he had become a displaced person, emotionally, isolated in the dark unknown, and to cope with this puzzling anxiety the only defense he could find was to try to turn it off.

Baba watched him for a time with intensity.

"You cannot run away from me," Swami said. " As I told you, no one can come to Puttaparthi, however accidental it might seem, without my calling him. I bring only those people who are ready to see me, and no body else, nobody, can find his way here. When I say 'ready' there are different levels of readiness, you understand."

...." I am always with you," Baba said. "Even when you don't believe in me, even when you try to forget me. Even when you laugh at me or try to hate me. Even when I am on the opposite side of the earth...

Divine Conversations.

Om Sai Ram

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...OOTY / KODAI EXPERIENCE !!!

1.    Sir,

I would like to share one of the few experiences of mine, when I was a part of the group Swami took to Ooty and Kodaikanal in the summer of 1988.

During one of the trips, Swami was showing us the scenery of the hills and asked us to take photographs. Then Swami said," You all are taking photographs on film. I will show you the photograph of the divine". Then Swami circled his hand near a rose and took out a hologram of a rose. It was oval in shape, and had a length of 2 inches. When held at different angles against the sun, we could see the rose in 7 different colors. Swami was showing this hologram to everyone in the group.

No incident is without a lesson with Swami around. After everyone had seen the hologram, Swami made it disappear. And then Swami told the group:

IF YOU ARE ADMIRING SUCH A SMALL CREATION OF GOD SO MUCH, HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD YOU ADMIRE GOD?

Regards

Jayahkrishna. G

2.    Dear Sir,

This is excellent.  We have to abide this rule.  Generally giving advise to others is one of the easiest thing in this material world but always realizing the SUPER SOUL (PARAMATHMA) by our SOUL (JEEVATHMA) is very difficult.  If we are ready to relieve DESIRE, FEAR, ANGER then we can attain the state of YOGI.  Only true YOGI can enjoy the unbound happiness derived from the GOD.

In this practice, we cannot gather the Crowd, Power, and Wealth in this human society but certainly GOD is with us.  GOD only can save us from all the mayas (material things), which really gives sufferings.

Regards

V. Vasu

3.    There are no words to express for the wonderful emails with Swami's blessing messages. Spell bound and lucky to have them. For some reason have not received any message last week?

FROM PUTTAPARTHI...SWAMI'S GOLDEN WORDS !!!

SWAMI'S GOLDEN WORDS!!!

You are not born for shedding tears. Hence you should also leave this world happily. Why should you have to worry about the ephemeral things like wealth and property, which are physical, fleeting, and impermanent? Such an attitude is unbecoming of a human being. These are all gifts from God.

There are four concepts that you must always keep in mind: the vyakthi (the individual), samashti (society), srishti (creation) and Parameshti (God). The srishti emerged out of Parameshti. From srishti came samashti, and samashti itself consists of vyakthi. Without vyakthi there can be no samashti. Hence, ultimately these are all God's gift. Are we making any efforts to shed tears for the sake of God? No. we are worried about passing clouds, which are ephemeral. This is not the true nature of a human being.

Never forget spirituality under any circumstances. Only spiritual life can confer peace and happiness. It is said "Bhajana bina sukha santhi nahi….."  Peace and happiness can be attained only by singing the glory of the Divine Name and not by wealth or worldly possessions. Worldly education aims at providing physical comforts only. - SATHYA SAI BABA

3.    Dear Sairam,

This message is absolutely wonderful.... (THE ANT & THE CONTACT LENS) words cannot describe the beauty of the message that has been summarized.......  When good things happen to us, we never ask "Why me, Lord?" but when problems hit us we immediately cry out, 'Oh Lord, Why me?'
